Norma Jean, Sorcerer 1978 Bearsville

The Discohead 100 is a series where I will highlight 100 of the best tracks from the Discohead crates.

Norma Jean Wright was the original lead vocalist for Chic. In 1978 her self titled debut album was released and included the instant disco classic “Saturday” and the slightly less popular but equally amazing single “Sorcerer”.

This is a great start for the Discohead 100, with strong, sexy vocals and the irresistible production style of Chic’s Bernard Edwards & Nile Rodgers, it’s just pure disco magic.

For the past few years Discohead.com radio has been streaming a unique blend of quality disco tracks with live shows. I have been DJing underground dance music for 15 years now. Over the past five years my interest in disco has grown from a curiosity and guilty pleasure, to my favorite genre of music and the focus of all my DJing and musical explorations. The Discohead radio stream has been a the perfect way for me to share all the wonderful music I find, and develop a unique sound and style for my DJing.

Since the beginning I have received continuous positive feedback from my listeners and I have been inspired to keep adding to my collection of rare vinyl, exploring the seemingly infinite amount of great disco tracks to be found if you dig deep enough.

Recent changes to the way royalties are calculated have made it virtually impossible for the small webcaster to survive. Unfortunately there is no sustainable way at this time to cover the increasing legal and licensing fees. Rather than risk legal action I have decided to stop the Discohead radio stream until a time comes when I can do it in a sustainable and legal way.

This does not mean I am giving up DJing, my love of disco, or the satisfaction that comes from finding that rare gem after spending hours crawling through back rooms of dirty shops in Long Island and New Jersey or wherever my searches take me.

So discohead.com will live on, as a site where I can share some of my favorite records, interesting new finds, disco radio streams, podcasts and websites and other disco curio.
